Touchless Fingerprint Sensors

Our strategy is to rapidly preprocess imagery acquired from sensors, which will substantially reduce the amount of data transmitted to the final processing unit, thereby dramatically reducing energy consumption. Only vetted salient information and features need to be forwarded on to the final processing unit. Specifically, we are developing a CMOS based sensor system that will capture the fingerprint image of each finger using optical illumination with blue, green and red wavelengths to enhance contrast ratios. In addition, the system will capture three views of the finger (one bottom and two side views) that will allow us to convert the acquired fingerprint into “flat” prints for direct comparison to prints obtained using traditional methods.
